El dispositivo ya fue probado en laboratorio con c\u00e9lulas cut\u00e1neas artificiales y dio resultados positivos sin mostrar efectos adversos. Ahora, deber\u00e1n probarlo en heridas reales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNuestro descubrimiento de un m\u00e9todo que puede curar heridas hasta tres veces m\u00e1s r\u00e1pido puede cambiarles la vida a personas diab\u00e9ticas y adultos mayores, entre otros grupos que sufren por lastimaduras que no se curan\u201d, asegur\u00f3 Maria Asplund, una especialista en bioelectr\u00f3nica de la Universidad de Freiburg, que form\u00f3 parte del estudio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sucede que en ocasiones los grupos sociales mencionados por la experta pueden terminar con infecciones peligrosas o amputaciones por tener laceraciones en la piel durante mucho tiempo. \u201cLas heridas cr\u00f3nicas son un problema social enorme\u201d, advirti\u00f3 Asplund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El desarrollo de este biochip fue gracias a un estudio previo que, en 2021, comprob\u00f3 que se pod\u00eda guiar el movimiento de las c\u00e9lulas de la piel hacia alg\u00fan sitio en particular mediante campos el\u00e9ctricos. De hecho, el cuerpo humano genera esos campos el\u00e9ctricos de manera natural. En este marco, el grupo de investigadores se propuso amplificar y darle un prop\u00f3sito puntual a ese fen\u00f3meno ya existente.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lo primero que hicieron fue desarrollar c\u00e9lulas cut\u00e1neas de manera artificial a partir de queratinocitos (es decir, las c\u00e9lulas que producen keratina), que son el tipo de c\u00e9lula de la piel m\u00e1s com\u00fan y que tiene un rol clave en el proceso de cicatrizaci\u00f3n. Con ellas pudieron probar el impacto de los campos el\u00e9ctricos, la intensidad con la que hab\u00eda que aplicarlos y la direcci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Los resultados del experimento fueron contundentes: tanto las c\u00e9lulas sanas como las que se asimilaban a las de una persona diab\u00e9tica migraron hasta tres veces m\u00e1s r\u00e1pido que aquellas que no tuvieron ninguna interferencia el\u00e9ctrica. A su vez, comprobaron que bast\u00f3 un solo pulso el\u00e9ctrico desde un lado de la herida para reparar la piel artificial m\u00e1s r\u00e1pido. Afortunadamente, ninguna de las c\u00e9lulas result\u00f3 da\u00f1ada por los testeos con electricidad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cVimos que cuando imitamos c\u00e9lulas con diabetes, las heridas en el chip sanan muy lentamente\u201d, cont\u00f3 Asplund. \u201cSin embargo, \u2013prosigui\u00f3\u2013 con estimulaci\u00f3n el\u00e9ctrica, pudimos acelerar el proceso de curaci\u00f3n para que las c\u00e9lulas cut\u00e1neas afectadas por la diabetes casi se correspondan con c\u00e9lulas cut\u00e1neas sanas\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La pr\u00f3xima etapa de esta investigaci\u00f3n ser\u00e1 probar el dispositivo en heridas reales de seres humanos vivos. Los resultados obtenidos en el laboratorio son auspiciosos, pero todav\u00eda queda mucho camino por delante. En caso de tener \u00e9xito, este descubrimiento podr\u00eda facilitarles la vida a cientos de millones de personas en todo el mundo.
